Deli Teli - Chily Chily

Grotesqualizer

French quartet Deli Teli covers the song of Yaakov Ben Hemo, or Koko, a little-known and forgotten Moroccan-Israeli artist who sang in Greek.

Originally, “Chily Chily” from Koko’s only album of 1977 is entrancing Tsifteteli fusion. Deli Teli, on the other hand, reincarnates the track in a way of vintage Middle Eastern psych, which makes it sound like an enthralling night journey through smoky obscure bars. The whirling bouzouki tremolo, the intoxicating '60s garagey organ, the nudging rhythm section come together in one decisive click, dissolving the space around you, marking a new, effective absorption. The vocals offer a sliding melody that places a unique, magnetizing mood in the air.
