Vienna-based Japanese pianist/composer Sayuri
Kato is
back as the lead member of the trio with the debut album “Sky Island.”
The track “Time Tunnel” originates from a pulsating, whirling math jazz theme with the addition of Third Stream. Sayuri Kato, bassist Christian Spork and drummer Andi Menrath unwind the dizzying instrumental loop, at times interrupting the music movement with spry lunges and dynamic variations. At 02:20, there’s a complete immersion in the magnificent art of the piano solo concert. It’s followed by the beautiful noisy avalanche of drumming, which brings us almost to the very end of this unordinary work.
