Under the moniker Hans Schmerz, Berlin composer and musician Hotte Schulz has released the touching debut EP “Baustellen.”
The release opener “Nur eine Phase” is a cinematic impressionism-reflection. The mesmerizing sensitivity and nostalgia engross you deeply, but don't weigh you down. This modest musical canvas sounds like raindrops beating and spreading on a window of an airport building, where someone is waiting for their midnight flight. These piano passages fly through the beauty of heartfelt daydreams and are able to convey a moment that can’t be ignored. Moreover, “Nur eine Phase” is a delightful and pacifying pendulum.
