“Soras” is the third album of Moscow blackgaze/screamo collective Toluca.
The opening track “Leraje” is named after the 14th demon/spirit from the medieval grimoire “The Lesser Key of Solomon”. This demon/spirit can transform into a woman or a man, control the climate and influence marriages. In its expanse, the track presents a series of rolling, doomed waves that suddenly appear from the dramatic lingering initial interior of the composition. At the peak of the holistic moments here, the musicians show what an expressive action means. The widest sound wall, forceful drums, riff-burns, and vocal mastery tearing itself apart. It seems that Toluca is following the latest footsteps of post-black metal, but in fact the band erases them and creates a new sound and form that are unique to them. With all the saturation and layers, Toluca retains indescribable sincerity.
