Larum, Okkyung Lee - O Orzchis Ecclesia

Grotesqualizer

Brooklyn avant duo Larum premiered a spellbinding portion of their upcoming second EP that demonstrates their vision of the liturgical choral music of Medieval abbess-visionary Hildegard von Bingen. The tape-y ambient noise and droney electronics, slowly cut through by the cautious strokes of woodwinds and cello part by South Korean musician Okkyung Lee, create an incredibly tactile sonic space. Sticking to the original lingering of “O Orzchis Ecclesia,” Larum add a more hazy twilight taste to the notes, as if Univers Zero composed for Tarkovsky.
