Swedish musician and producer Mudbody shares a haunting song from his latest EP, “Underachieve,” that he created during
live streams.
“Weight Blanket” is delivered in a rather nontrivial and atmospheric way, which can be tagged nightmarish indie rock. To the tight drums and intense bass, the rest of the sounds move somnambulantly in an obvious post-punk environment and sometimes stand out like at 1:07. Dejected at first, Mudbody's vocals eventually become disturbing as well as stressful with the help of the hazy lyrics with the Donnie Darko vibe. In the end, “Weight Blanket” doesn’t completely bring you into a gloomy stupor, but the song seems to extract and leave your frightening thoughts to itself.
