The Switzerland collective presents a fascinating new instrumental single from their forthcoming album.
“Otto Ries” is rich, varied Balkan jazz fusion. It opens with a propulsive rhythm section, while the trombone, accordion and creeping guitar unwrap an alluring folk melodicism. After one minute, we freeze in the slow sound of what can be called pleiades jazz. The music is filled with Eastern European mysticism, the sound grows into an indescribable glow, and in the third minute it sways into an outlandish dance and further into some kind of dramatic tension. Pamplona Grup masterfully variegates what ends up a highly picturesque composition.
