Los Angeles singer/artist Baby Jane, who has received a lot of attention with the recent single “Khaleesi,” presents a new intense-pop/trap&grunge banger titled “Benchwarmer.”
The bouncing riff and neat 808 beat create a slightly suspicious mood, while with the melodic line in the chorus, “Benchwarmer” seems to become an unconscious response to the Joy Division’s song, which rises even more goosebumps. Baby Jane's vocal tone with a certain amount of detachment and aligned lyrics pick you up, rising to the very edge just to let go off your hand to a free fall at 1:14. And the harmony in the coda at 2:34 is the very place that makes you want to fall again and again. “Benchwarmer” is a strong experience wrapped up in the ultra-compact sound of the Gen Z.
