London-based multidisciplinary artist Timothy Sawyer Shepard shared “Long Ago Forgotten,” a unique assortment of sound collages recorded between 1992 and 2022.
“Keep 'em Flying,” like the rest of the tracks from the release, is glued up of numerous samples, grabbed from vinyls and glass audiodiscs from the depths of the twentieth century, found at local sales. The resulting new transformation has shadowy, dilapidated jazz cuts that evoke nerve-racking nostalgia. For this strange effect, Shepard forms “Keep 'em Flying” mainly using a poltergeist-like melodic overlay and unsettling, dissonant disruptions. The theme leaves a heavy, indelible impression of deep irreality.
