New York artist Nicholas Jackson presents an intense track from the upcoming 4-song EP for his project No Dream.
“Born Nihilist” is chaotic and twitchy industrial rock. The track feels like you’re going out for a walk in the park only to find yourself on the periphery of a militaristic massacre, the music seems to knock down all natural rhythms, tripping them up in a psychoemotional way. Nicholas Jackson exaggerates the sound, using harsh and mangled transitions, straightforward, dry riffs, oppressive noises and beats, and vocals mumbling in a dark, shabby corner. The lyrics are saturated with despair, decadent urbanism, a ton of fear and doubt about human destiny. “Born Nihilist” is a notable extension of a genre that once came from Skinny Puppy, NIN, KMFDM, and the like.
