In the last month of fall, Swedish collective The Calle Stenman Quintet released their debut album “Mr. Sands Is In The Dressing Room,” which symbolizes various human masks and moods.
One of the songs is “Colombia” - noir jazz with an aching and woeful charm, which may remind of the works of Buz Hendricks or Bohren & der Club of Gore. Slow, wicker pace - it goes with a penetrating longing, tearing you apart. Lingering trumpet notes create deeply regretting music of fate and the past. The double bass solo, rarefied with a humble piano, releases you for a bit, but then again you need to bring a heavy stone to the top of the mountain, from where it will roll down again. “Colombia” points out that bitterness can be balanced, but its burden is difficult to hide.
