South Carolina-hailing artist Tommy Ponder unveiled an agile new single. “House Of Shame” has a folk punk/rock aesthetic a la Violent Femmes, with swift rhythms and lively guitars. But the track also retains a bit of a smooth modern indie aura through subtle dreamy synths and balanced, uncluttered vox. Towards the end, the music even takes on some prog intonation. In the lyrics, Ponder conveys his “frustration with shallow worldviews that present themselves as deeply convicted, yet lack real substance or authenticity.”
