Norwegian guitar player and composer Kim Myhr hypnotizes with the first track of the future album “Hereafter,” recorded in collaboration with experimental/improvisation collective Kitchen Orchestra.
“VI” is a swirling and saturated take as if from an infinite procession-like jam session. There are fascinating elements here, such as South Asian microtonal and drone music heritage, Bardo Thodol-esque leitmotif, as well as Nordic psychedelic traditions since Parson Sound, Algarnas Tradgard, etc. The trance-inducing rhythm pilotage carries lush streams of synths and strings, which, in addition to the metaphysical realm, are eyeing the modern classical avant-garde one. The delivery of the composition is superbly viscous and immersive.
