Check out this affecting new song by Asheville, NC project Fuji Gateway.
“Forgone Disillusion” is indie rock directed into the depths of the blue sky and shedding its old skin. The warmly melancholic, moderately monotonous sound could be in the credits of a quiet slice-of-life drama. This vibe is built with atmospheric, fizzy guitarism, a tight, refrained rhythm section, and scattering keys. The humble, chanting notes turn into a goosebump-ish falsetto in the chorus, as if Shinji Sato were playing in an emogaze band.
“This song is about forgone (predetermined) disillusionment (feeling bored or unfulfilled with something). I always felt like this was something society and peoples' expectations around us can set us up for. The song is about trying to do something different and not fall into this trap,” comments Steven Applegate, the musician behind Fuji Gateway.
