LA project Mirror Tree, led by singer-songwriter Michael Gold, returns with a charmingly stylized new song.
Musically, “Echoes Competing” is light and melodious neo-psych in the dimension of retro ork-pop and soft rock. The mushy, unstrained sound flow of strings and keys has a funky, exhilarant rhythm section support. The warm-windy, nostalgic vocal passages evoke the image of Elliot Smith covering Jon Anderson and also intersect with a lovely plume of old European film scores. Meanwhile, the lyrical part tells about a woman under a load of anxiety. The release of Mirror Tree’s self-titled debut LP is scheduled for September 8.
