Electric Sufi, a three-piece project from the UK, have released their fantastic version of an original song by Pakistani singer Mehdi Hassan and poet Qateel Shifai.
“Destiny” is a bewitching combo of ghazal music and space rock. At the beginning, the composition presents the charm of Sarah Yaseen’s chanting in Urdu language over the ethereal sustained tone. Towards the middle of the track, the entranced acid synth modulation emerges, along with the concentrated drums and playful ney flute overflows. This change reminds of planetary jamtronica in the vein of Ozric Tentacles. The near-end qanun tremolo completely immerses the listener in the ancient, mysterious Middle East.
