Here are riveting melodies from the fresh album “A Thousand Pebbles” by New York-based pianist and composer Ben Rosenblum's ensemble.
“Bulgares” brings Bulgarian traditional music to the jazz fusion and progressive folk field. The graceful, playful accordion delivery by Rosenblum gives the composition a start. Then the unsymmetrical backing rhythm groove with the support of bass clarinet meet the ‘60s/‘70s adventure film score-hued, bright trumpet notes. All instruments resonate, forming a very addictive, ornate spiral. In the fourth minute, the lavish electric guitar solo emerges, as if circling around high mountain peaks.
