Halloween - Ancient Pain

Philadelphia outfit Halloween unveils the impressive first song from their self-titled debut five-track EP, scheduled for February 10.

“Ancient Pain” is a capitally spread, disquieting shoegazing. In the beginning, the Silent Hill-ish, clean guitar rolls create the feeling that the reality around is replaced with an infinitely weird, indistinguishable dream. At 00:58, Kevin Shields’ noisy heritage and a dynamic grunge touch seem to pull a kaleidoscopic hot sky to eye level. The deeply recessed vocal has a very tuneful and opiate direction. The track's coda presents a sudden shift to sci-fi ambient textures.
