Woodwind instruments player and composer Rich Muscat from London unveils an atmospheric and profound piece from the debut EP “Karmic Limitations,” out on February 4.
“Pining” is like a lonely metaphorical walk in a once prosperous place, now encompassing only dampness, downfall, and fading ghosts. With the help of other musicians, “Pining” combines various jazz/prog techniques with post-rock decay and viscosity, forming a penetrating sound that is like a poignant condolence on the painful passage of time. Rich's saxophone playing is filled with lingering yearning, and the piano part, performed by Maria Chiara Argiro, emanates decadent detachment. The second part of the track gets more intense and Rich Muscat finishes the song with a sad and cold hard bop expression.
