Xander Naylor - Riddlin

Grotesqualizer

The Brooklyn composer and guitarist presents an impressive track from the new album “Continuum.”

The sharpened rhythm section gets overlaid with the fluttering brass band and mechanical guitar infusion. Math rock, zeuhl, jazz fusion merge in the metallic, impetuous sound of “Riddlin.” And in the second half of the second minute, the track literally melts, leaving only a strange, spreading glow. Then we hear Xander Naylor's guitar manipulations re-shape the contours, resurrecting the faded form of the composition. And by the end of the third minute, a large avalanche strikes, led by the wild saxophone howl. “Riddlin” is a detailed and dynamic modern prog colossus.
