Maryland trip givers return with a new 7-minute journey to a state between wakefulness and sleep.
The viscous, disturbing guitars and spinning wheel spokes of the beat of “Shadow Man” impart psychedelic dusk. As if a powerful echo of Gustav Meyrink’s legacy, the track explores encounters in sleep paralysis with frightening, mysterious and vague creatures that, in different cultures, can be considered heralds.
“Lay back down, back to sleep, listen to the voices float and creep” - the vocals, soaring over the magnetizing bongos, are buried in black granules of dreams. By the fifth minute, the track stratifies, and in addition to the opening solo act, you can hear a dark post-punk inclusion that reinforces the anxiety of being watched by someone in your dreams and something happening.
