Almost two and a half years ago, Brooklyn-based composer and saxophonist Ayumi Ishito, being a part of a quintet, debuted with the strong jazz fusion album, “View From A Little Cave.” “Midnite Cinema” is the next step from diverting interpretations of warm traditionalism in “View From A Little Cave” towards an exploration of the fantastic theater-maze with ornate prog-turns.
The track “Not Today” stands out with its notable element of the wah-wah sound of the tenor saxophone, which makes the track an infinitely dissolving, hypnotic pill. “Not Today” is a midnight flight in the clouds over New York, exciting intonations almost on the edge of dark jazz noir and urban esotericism, and also a response to an intrusive tremor and a six-minute window to a saving and amazing world.
