“Gunning For You” by the band Rebecca Thirdkill is paranoid mystery-soul, as if produced in a remote medical facility. After the listen, only some kind of pre-apocalyptic numbness is left.
It sounds like Coil reanimated one of the Simon & Garfunkel's songs for Philippe Grandrieux’s movie. The piano’s cold dripping dissolves into vague images. The disturbing repetitive bass line clench back and forth like a snake wrapped around your neck. The real treasure here is all these noise shadows of the track, but be wary of the drilling moment at 2:54 if you have a vivid imagination. And of course, the video incarnation of “Gunning For You” gives a very individual experience. The recently released EP “Kicksville” also contains 2 other tracks of the band that interestingly turns intuition into nebulous audio noir.
